Lee Roy Selmon's history combines the virtues of family football scholarship and volunteering for the community. The first family is his youngest of nine children of Lucious and Jessie Selmon. They grew up on a farm in Eufala, Oklahoma. Another reason for his football career was that Selmon is the youngest of three brothers to play for Oklahoma. Three brothers were All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey was a starter for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. For three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy serving as their starting line-up. Also, they won 2 national titles. In his role as an National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was awarded a scholarship for the third time in 1975. Selmon has a bachelor's degree in education. Lee Roy's fourth service consisted of ten hours a week of volunteer time in the college. After college he settled in Tampa played nine years with the Buccaneers was all-pro three times and started an entrepreneurial career. In 1988, he was an Account Relations officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also a part of the following organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the country's top 10 young men. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch taller and weighing more than 256 pounds when he played in the college level as a player, captained his team throughout 1975. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993, as associate director of sports. In 1988, Selmon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The same year, he also was a part of an appearance in the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded their Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. The award was presented by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
